Caliente PUMPED for 2011-2012 Season!
The bright young ladies of Caliente are coming off of the 2011 Spring season stronger, bigger and more pumped than ever before! They are starting the season with the largest number of returners ever and had a successful show at Passport to ASU to recruit new players. The captains and officers on the team have great things in store for the team this year because they are sure to make it a great season and continue with the momentum from the last.
Caliente splits A & B for NYF XXIV
Caliente had enough dedicated players for the first time in its 3 1/2 year history to field an A and a B team! This is a major step in Caliente's growth thanks to devoted members recruiting and retaining players. Both team played well at the annual local New Years Fest, although the skill of more mature club teams were a hard challenge to face.
Rookies get their first taste of Ultimate!
Caliente participated in the Southwest Women's Club Sectionals so our rookies could get a taste of the actual game and competition. Caliente faced the Phoenix and Tucson women's club teams as well as UofA in record setting 111º heat on Sep. 20 in sunny, cloudless Scottsdale, AZ. Caliente took the field to face these three extremely experienced teams one at a time, yet could not keep up with the older teams. No victories were had for Caliente on the field, however this tournament was a great learning experience for new girls as well as old. It shows all the ladies have to look forward to in the upcoming season. The next time we face these teams it won't be so easy for them; Caliente is brinin' it!
Caliente going to Regionals in CO!
Caliente hosted UA A & B Scorch and Sirens, NAU Jines, and UNM Bombshells at Desert Sectionals on their own home fields. New UPA set-up meant six straight games for Caliente. Caliente faced UA Scorch to start off with, which ended against a loss against the no. 1 seed. Game 2 against the no. 4 Jines ended in victory followed by another loss against the no.2 Bombshells in Game 3. Game 4 vs. the Sirens was ended shortly after starting so the ladies of Caliente could conserve their energy to face UNM again in Game 5 to avoid a Game 6. Game 5 started with ASU leading but could not keep it together and lost to UNM. Game 6 left Caliente fighting for their lives and the last bid to Regionals against NAU. We underestimated the Jines and went point for point the entire game; neither gaining more than a 2 point advantage. Soft Cap then Hard Cap was on and it came down to Universe Point. An endzone Senior to Senior pass between Captain Erin and Kara led to a Caliente victory and a bid to Regionals!
Caliente goes 1-1 at Trouble in Fabulous, Rainy Las Vegas
The lovely ladies of Caliente traveled to the city of sin for the largest college Ultimate tournament in the country--Trouble in Vegas! On Day 1 Caliente faced Michigan State in a game marred by any Ultimate player's worst nightmare:wind, making the final score 1-13. With the temperatures quickly dropping, Caliente bundled up and supported our men, the Diablos, in a heated game against George Washington, only to have the roles reversed in our last game of the day. Caliente faced the undefeated, no. 1 seeded ladies of GW in a rainy game late into the night. They played hard but we played harder and were monsters on D and beat GW 12-4. Day 2 was rained out by that famous? Vegas rain and Day 3 completely canceled. Caliente may not have brought it to the field the last two days, but they brought it to the party.
